Happy Father's Day!

Jun 21 | Posted by: Rebecca Loebe |

When my sister and I were little, 5 or 6 I think, my dad started reading us Louisa May Alcott’s “Little Women” every night before bedtime. I don’t know how many weeks or months we spent on it, but I remember that by the end of the book Margaret and I were taking turns reading out loud as well. When we got to a word we didn’t understand, dad would write it down in a notepad and draw a little stick figure acting out whatever the word meant.

I’m writing this down because it’s father’s day, although it occurs to me we should celebrate those that we love no matter what day it is. Thank you dad, for helping me learn so much - how to read, write, ride a bike, play guitar, throw a football, be a smartass, travel the world. Thanks for taking me to college auditions, helping me survive school and never challenging my unconventional path. Thanks for carrying on your mother’s beautiful legacy of strength, independence, leadership and intelligence.

Thanks for being my friend and someone I know I can rely on. Thanks for always being so loving to me, Chris, Roy and Margaret and our friends and partners too. I love you and, even though I know you don’t really care about “hallmark holidays,” I feel compelled to say it: Happy father’s day.
